About the Event
Juan Bautista de Anza made two overland trips from here to California in 1774 and 1775, opening California to Spanish settlement, including the founding of San Francisco, which both trips helped to establish the now famous “Anza Trail.” This is the fascinating story of those trips. The first was with a priest at his side who wouldn’t talk to him, and the second was with such a troubling priest that it made Anza wish he had the first one back! This incredible journey would take approximately five months each time. Most of the expeditioners were women and children who walked their way to California. Learn about this remarkable story of a group of people who experienced both hardships and successes…and that is only part of the story.
Snacks will be served. $15 per lecture. Inside the 1885 Old Schoolhouse. A portion of the proceeds supports our education and preservation programs. Please email, or call, for reservations <info@tubacpresidio.org> 520-398-2252.
