About the Event
J.R. Bartlett and the Captive Girl is an historical novel based on the 1850-1853 journals of John Russell Bartlett, bookstore owner and linguist, who while heading up the US/Mexico Boundary Survey Commission marking the new boundary between Mexico and the United States recounts the challenges, conflicts and joy of the perilous journey to take Inez Gonzales—an Apache captive whom he rescued from traders—home to her family in Santa Cruz, Sonora Mexico. Join the author for a tour of the Tubac Presidio where the Borderlands history of Bartlett and Gonzales “lives” today.
Snacks will be served. $15 per lecture. Inside the 1885 Old Schoolhouse. A portion of the proceeds supports our education and preservation programs. Please email, or call, for reservations <info@tubacpresidio.org> 520-398-2252.
