Field Trips

A field trip to the Tubac Presidio means an indoor and outdoor experience, hands-on educational activities, holding class in our 1885 schoolhouse, and more. Our field trips are designed to encourage an interactive exchange of traditional knowledge.

Field trips combine history, art, and STEM to provide well-rounded exploration for young scholars.

Maximum number of scholars is approximately 60.

Field trip rates are $2 per K-12 student, and $7 per adult chaperone. No charge for teachers and bus drivers.

FAQs FOR TEACHERS

What do teachers need to know?

We don’t currently offer guided tours or planned activities for school groups. Teachers and their aides should be prepared to lead school groups using our self-guided tour booklets. We are happy to provide handouts of our Historic Scavenger Hunt activity. Teachers are welcome to give “classes” in our historic one-room schoolhouse and students may enjoy playing traditional games like marbles and hopscotch outside of the schoolhouse. All five buildings are available to the class. We have many school groups who enjoy visiting in period dress.

Can I schedule a demonstration of the printing press for my students?

With advance planning, it may be possible to schedule a hands-on demonstration of the historic printing press depending on volunteer availability. Please inquire about this activity at the time of booking your reservation.

Is there adequate parking for buses?

Yes, we can generally accommodate one to two school buses in our parking lot. We ask that buses not idle for long periods of time in the parking lot.

What is the cost for school groups to visit the Presidio?

For school groups, we charge $2 admission per student and $7 admission per adult (chaperones, aides and parents), teachers and bus drivers are free.

Can we bring a picnic?

Yes, school groups are welcome to use our outdoor picnic areas. We do not allow food and beverages inside the museum but in the case of inclement weather, we allow school groups to use the historic classroom for lunches.

Do you sell snacks, beverages, and water?

No, we do not sell snacks or beverages. We have a limited supply of bottled water for sale as well as an outdoor drinking fountain to refill water bottles.
