Remembering Elizabeth “Pixie” Geren
Long time community leader Pixie Geren is being remembered for her rich and abundant contributions to Tubac. Pixie was a beloved fixture and creative force at many local galleries including her own, Geren gallery.
Pixie connected with people in her unique way through her expertise, raucous laugh and quick wit. She had a keen eye for aesthetics and extensive knowledge of art. Her genuine passion for craft, history and culture delighted locals and visitors alike.
She was extremely proud to have participated in the archeological dig at the Barrio de Tubac Archeological Preserve south of the Tubac Presidio and Museum. This effort reflected her passion for history and drive to understand and interpret the past.
As a volunteer, Pixie sought to make life better for those around her. In addition to investing her time and talent at the Tubac Presidio and Museum, she was active with the Tubac Chamber of Commerce, Tubac Center for the Arts, Tumacácori National Historical Park, The Tubac Historical Society, Boys and Girls Club of Nogales, and St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic.
Pixie was an active church member and lovingly expressed her compassion and generosity. She served others in many ways including sewing blankets for newborn babies in Nogales and caring for those nearing their death.
Pixie Geren died on June 24, 2023. Her devotion and many caring contributions are permanently etched into Tubac’s cultural and social identity. Her family is planning a memorial at a future date and requests that memorial gifts be made to her favorite charity, The Tubac Presidio and Museum, PO Box 1296, Tubac, AZ 85646-1296.
